MAGBANA $15 Released by Magbana.

High energy drumming from the Magbana Drum and Dance company in NYC led by artistic director Michael Markus. Most of the tracks are based on traditional rhythms from Guinea but there are also a few originals and a couple grooves from various other places as well.  While we hear plenty of Guinea style djembe and dunun, we are also treated to the krin (slit drum), balaphone (African xylophone), didjerido, kora (African harp), flute and other instruments.  The arrangements are tight and clean with musicianship that's hard to match.  Plain and simple, this CD is smoking!

Magbana company drummers are Michael Markus, Matthew Dean, Christopher Duggan, Reuven Weizberg, and Scott Kettner. Magbana features special guests from Guinea, West Africa, including M’bemba Bangoura, Laurent Camara, Famaro Dioubate and Mmah Doumbouya, as well as other talented guest musicians such as Peter Fand, Brian Glashow, and Sylvan Leroux.
