Diverse selection of quality recordings collected in Mali during 1991 and 1992 by a team of 6 including an anthropologist, ethnomusicologist, interpreter and technicians. They visited 22 different villages and 25 types of music were recorded. Each village was asked to present something that was unique to their musical and cultural identity. Some of the forms played are typically reserved for specific caste groups. A 40 page booklet includes descriptions of every track in English and French as well as photographs.
