This CD is the first volume of an anthology of traditional Sierra Leonean music produced by Luke Wassermann. It was recorded live in 2006 in the coastal area known as Lungi, and features a variety of male and female vocalists, with spectacular drumming. The 12-page booklet included in the package contains color photographs, song translations, background information, and an interview transcript. The group featured in this recording includes a couple of professional musicians, but mostly consists of fishermen who play music as a leisure activity, and women and children from the village. The style of the singing is call-and-response which encourages everyone to participate, and gives the music event a festive atmosphere.
