Recordings of social and ceremonial music of the Newar people of Nepal from 1973 and 1952. Newar social and religious life is animated by many festivals which punctuate the calendar. Each ceremony, each period of the year calls for a specific musical envirenment. On this recording we hear diverse examples of many of the Newar ensembles including flutes, drums, vocals, horns, cymbals, and fiddles.
