CLARA – Mystere Frontiere
Clara is a young “Servidora de Misterio” living near the Dominican-Haitian border. She never had formal voice training but without doubts she has marvelously gifted vocal chords.
She always sings in “Fiestas de Palo” and here she performs with a group of teenage “Paleros” beating ancient rhythms with new hands and, perhaps, a new attitude.
Clara’s powerful voice leads the drums and the choir without leaving any doubts.
Her powerful personality, even while she performs for us in the recording session, constantly evokes the possessions of entities such as “Candelo Cedife’”, “Gran Bwua” or “Belie’ Belcan” that often get hold of her mind and body during religious worships.
The repertoire is a mix of traditional Dominican and Haitian Lwa songs that she performs with her amazing intensity both in Spanish and in Creole. |
