FOLK MUSIC OF JAMAICA
Recorded by Edward Seaga in the 1950's and originally released in 1956.

This album includes both secular and religious music.  All selections were collected in the process of a two year study of religious cults in Jamaica. The recordings were all made during the natural proceedings of festivities held by the participants for their own purposes. We can hear selection from 2 types of spirit cults, the "Afro" group being represented by the Kumina cult, and the "Christianized" by the 2 Revival cults -- Zion-way Baptist and Pukkumina.

Re-released by Folkways in small 'to-order' quantities, these CDs do not have cover art but do include copies of orginal notes.  These are very rare CDs and are not sold in stores.  We special order these from folkways and have them in stock for instant shipment!
